Labelled 'retarded' at three years old, Temple didn't learn to speak until she was five. In her 60's (she was in her late 50's in this film) she's an associate professor of animal science and a best-selling author. She was the first autistic to write an autobiography.
This documentary appeared on BBC on June 8, 2006. I'm not too crazy about the title of the film. The use of the words woman and cow in the same sentence is a little distasteful to my sensibility, but if you take the meaning literally it works OK. Still, the film title retains a bit of the sideshow flavor (you almost expect the announcer to shourt "Step right up and see the cow woman!"). If I were the producer I would have rejected the title without giving it much thought. I am afraid we will never recover from society's stereotypy of Dustin Hoffman's virtuoso performance in Rain Man. But Cow Woman? Come on English majors, we can do better than that!
Maybe we could re-name the film. Any suggestions?
